Faceted Navigation

Also known as패싯 검색필터 내비게이션

In one line

Faceted navigation is the filter-and-sort UX that multiplies URLs from a single catalog — extremely user-friendly, but a top cause of index bloat if left unmanaged.

Going deeper

Faceted navigation is the brand-price-size-sort filter UX you see on ecommerce and job sites. Great for users, but each filter combination spawns its own URL, and the same catalog can balloon into tens or hundreds of thousands of permutations.

If engines index all those variants, two problems hit at once. Crawl budget gets soaked up by near-duplicate URLs, and the variants cannibalise each other in search results. The standard toolkit to fight this is some mix of noindex+follow, canonical consolidation, parameter handling, and robots.txt blocking.

There is no single right answer, but the operating principle is consistent: index the combinations with real demand, suppress the rest. Category times brand often deserves to live; colour times stock-status almost never does.
