Content gap analysis usually starts by picking three to five competitor domains, pulling the keywords they rank for, and isolating the ones where you have no comparable page. The 'Content Gap' reports in Ahrefs or Semrush are the typical entry point.

The list itself isn't the deliverable — the diagnosis is. Are you missing the page entirely, do you have one that doesn't match the intent, or is your domain authority too thin? Each answer leads to a different fix.

It travels well into GEO too. Pull the category prompts where competitors get cited and you don't, and you have an AI-citation gap. Folding both into a single editorial roadmap tends to work better than running two parallel programmes.
