Grounded Generation

Also known as근거 기반 생성Grounded Answering

In one line

Grounded Generation is the answering pattern where an LLM is forced to compose its reply on top of retrieved sources — AI search citations are the most visible example.

Going deeper

Grounded Generation is the pattern where an LLM is required to build its answer on retrieved sources rather than relying on training memory alone. 'Grounding' is the broader concept; grounded generation is that idea applied specifically to the answer-writing step.

The GEO connection is direct. Whenever an AI answer shows source citations, you are looking at grounded generation in action — and your content has to be in the source pool the model pulled from for any citation to be possible. AI search citations are essentially the visible output of this pattern.

The content takeaway is simple: GEO is about being the source the model wants to lean on. Pages with concrete facts, clean definitions, structured data and clear examples are more likely to be picked up at the grounded-generation step. Pages built around mood and context, even if cited, rarely yield a quotable sentence.
