Even on the same category prompt, the cited domains can differ a lot model to model, and the per-model view exposes patterns the average hides.
Its value is making 'where are we weak' obvious. A blended SoV looks smooth; per-model often shows you are number one on ChatGPT and outside the top five on Perplexity. That gap maps cleanly to which surface needs which kind of content reinforcement.
Operationally, factor in that surfaces move. Model updates and interface tweaks shift the same prompt's results, so Share of Model reads more reliably as a quarterly trend per model than as an absolute figure pulled at one moment in time.
