Conversational Search

Also known as대화형 검색Chat-based Search

In one line

Conversational search is the pattern where users refine a query through follow-up questions, treating search as a back-and-forth dialogue rather than a single shot.

Going deeper

Conversational search is the pattern where the user does not stop at one keyword query — they iterate with follow-ups: 'tell me about A', 'now compare B and C', 'what about pricing?'. ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity have moved a chunk of search behaviour into this shape.

The biggest shift for marketers is that 'one search equals one exposure' no longer holds. A single user fires off several related prompts in a row, and once your brand makes it into the first answer, it tends to come up again in the follow-ups. Getting into that first answer matters more than it used to.

On the content side, planning around 'cluster of related questions' beats planning around a single page. AI tends to lean on sources it has already cited when generating follow-ups, so a page that can answer several adjacent questions earns exposure across the entire conversation.
