Evergreen content is the kind that still earns its keep six or twelve months after publication. Guides, definitions, comparison tables, framework explainers — anything whose value comes from fundamentals. The opposite is time-sensitive content: news, seasonal campaigns, trend reports that decay fast.
The real ROI shows up on the cumulative curve. A single evergreen post can look unspectacular on launch day but quietly compound traffic, internal links and external citations over 12 to 24 months. That is why a lot of teams plan their content calendar as an explicit ratio of evergreen to timely.
Important caveat: 'evergreen' is not 'forever'. Even the best evergreen pages need a refresh once or twice a year — stats, screenshots, tool names — or both classic search and LLM-driven citations will start treating them as stale. Real evergreen is evergreen plus a maintenance habit.
